About

Julie Kramer began sewing for herself and others at a very young age. With aspirations of becoming a fashion designer, she started designing for the fabulous likes of Barbie, Stacy, PJ and Francie. At the age of 8 with the direction of her mother, she went on to sew and sell handbags made out of her brother's old blue jeans. Self taught and getting direction from her seamstress grandmother, Julie sewed her own unique wardrobe throughout high school, college and her various careers. In the early 90s, while working as a Design Assistant for a local swimwear designer, she took a step and designed, made and sold hats, jackets and handbags in various shops and street fairs in Chicago. She continued this venture through 1998. After working several years in the retail arena, Julie decided it was time to make a SHIFT, and created a dress line thoughtfully named SHIFT.

The name SHIFT came not only from the type of dress she designs and makes, but from the movement and change that this dress line is bringing about in her life. It is an adventure that is bringing much change and fulfillment in her life.

The SHIFT dress is based on one basic dress style with a twist, that may include grommets, a unique combination of fabrics or a peek of contrasting fabric. The style is simple and comfortable and has a unique flair. Julie has always had a love of quirky, unique and interesting fabrics and loves bringing them to life in her garments.

The SHIFT dress is designed for a medium build spirited woman who wants to look and feel great about herself and who enjoys expressing herself through her clothing. It is semi-fitted and allows for movement..SHIFTing. The base colors used are neutrals with a twist of color or pattern shown in some part of the garment.
